Stories From Across Kentucky
Behind every healthcare policy discussion are real people navigating real challenges. Hear directly from Kentuckians sharing their experiences with access to care, coverage, and community health.
Healthcare is not a privilege, it should be a right. I think everyone should have healthcare available to them, no matter what your income level is, what your status is, what your age is, what your sex is, everybody should be able to access the same type of treatment.
Dr. Johnson, Pike County
I know lots of people that, if they did not have Medicaid, they would die because they could not buy the medicine. What are people supposed to do then? You gotta take care of everybody, not just the people that can afford it, but even those that can’t. Medicaid is so needed. I can’t imagine the country functioning without it.
Vickie, Pike County
I should not have been standing in the emergency room with my husband that was about to die, completely surrounded by doctors and nurses, with a pastor with his hand on my shoulder, thinking in the back of my head, ‘how on earth are we going to pay for this?
Cherlynn, Fayette County
Let’s think about what’s best for the common good. Less tax dollars would be spent on healthcare if we all work together to be healthy. The care I got on Medicaid was as good as the care I got on my employer sponsored plan. I did 98 weeks of unemployment and then I was finally able to get another job after having been laid off. We’re going to go through hard times as a society and as a country. People are not always as lucky as I was, that’s why it’s so important to have coverage and stay healthy.
Jenny, Owen County
