MEDIA STATEMENT REGARDING THE PASSAGE OF H.R.1, THE “ONE BIG BEAUTIFUL BILL ACT”

The United States House of Representatives and the United States Senate have passed H.R. 1 during votes taken July 2nd and 3rd, reducing billions of dollars in federal support to Medicaid, SNAP and other programs designed to help families have their basic needs met, while simultaneously adding $3.3 trillion dollars to the national debt. Please see the below statement from Kentucky Voices for Health Executive Director, Emily Beauregard.

“With the final passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, we know today is a deeply discouraging day for our coalition. The bill’s unprecedented cuts to public programs, paired with burdensome administrative hurdles and a massive cost shift to the state budget, threaten the health and economic stability of our Commonwealth. These changes disproportionately impact Kentucky and place our policymakers in an impossible bind: tasked with maintaining essential programs and services with a fraction of the resources they once had.

Kentucky Voices for Health is committed to addressing these rollbacks and working with leaders at every level to find real, sustainable solutions. We urge Kentuckians to stay active in the process with our federal delegation and state lawmakers to help address the bill’s potential harms. As we look towards 2026 and a budget session for Kentucky’s General Assembly, there will be critical work to address these unsustainable shortfalls and ensure health equity and access to care remain central in all budget decisions.

Despite the setbacks and challenges the One Big Beautiful Bill brings, our commitment remains firm. Kentucky Voices for Health will continue fighting for a healthcare system that’s accessible and affordable no matter who you are or where you live. In the weeks, months, and years ahead, as the real-world consequences of this legislation take hold, KVH will work relentlessly to minimize the damage and advocate alongside Kentuckians.” — Emily Beauregard, Executive Director, Kentucky Voices for Health
