Rally & March for Improved Medicare for All

Jul 24 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

A public Rally and March for Improved Medicare for All will take place on Saturday, July 24th 11 A.M. beginning at 600 Martin Luther King JR Place, the park in front of the Romano Mazzoli Federal building.  Speakers and participants will gather under the shade trees near the corner of 7th and Chestnut..  People are taking to the streets in 45 cities across the nation to speed the day when health care is organized around patients rather than profits and to make health care a human right.

Initiated locally by Kentuckians for Single Payer Healthcare, the event will urge passage of national, not-for-profit, single payer legislation so that everyone will be covered by an Improved Medicare for all.

Healthcare workers and community leaders will speak on the urgency to cover the health care needs of all residents. The U. S. is the only industrialized nation that does not assure health care for all its people.

At noon, the march will leave from MLK Jr place moving north along Seventh and across to 301 S. Sixth, Breeway, to place flowers in honor of Breonna Taylor, to connect with her profession as a healer, and to link the struggle for health care with the fight to end systemic racism.  The march will return where it began for refreshments and socializing.

The event also marks the 56th anniversary of the passage of Medicare.

Eighteen community organizations have joined in cosponsoring this event.  They are:
Kentuckians for Single Payer Health Care, Physicians for a National Health Program-KY, Kentucky Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression, Greater Louisville Central Labor Council, Independence Seekers, Movement for a People’s Party-KY, Clifton Universalist Unitarian Church, Kentucky Alliance for Retired Americans, Metro Disability Coalition, UAW Local 862, Central Kentucky Council for Peace and Justice, Anne Braden Institute for Social Justice Research, Carl Braden Memorial Center,  Association for the Study of African American Life and History, La Casita Center, Louisville Fellowship of Reconciliation, Fairness, Louisville Showing Up for Racial Justice

The public is invited to participate in the event.
